Many drivers use these devices to keep themselves safe if an accident occurs. It provides clear evidence for the drivers and even the passengers if an unexpected accident occurs. It will be evidence of exactly what went wrong.

The dash cam has the following benefits to a driver:

  • It ensures the safety of the road.
  •  It protects your teenagers' driving since you can monitor all that is going on.
  • The videos recorded are used as evidence in case an accident occurs.
  • It is useful to insurance companies since it prevents fraud by some drivers who cause accidents deliberately.

  • The devices help you to park your vehicle by the use of parking mode which also provides evidence if someone hits your car while parking.
  • The dash cam is also very important in capturing some events which occur unexpectedly such as wild animals on the road.

How to install dash cam in your vehicle

In order to use a this camera, you have to install it in a correct and proper manner. By following the given steps, you will be helped a lot! Let's see how to install a rear view mirror camera:

Prepare the camera

Ensure that the dash cam itself is ready with its suction cup mount together with the car charger as the power cable. The vehicle should have an SR curtain airbag for the process of installing the power cable.

Find a good spot for the installation

Find a very nice spot for installing the cam where it doesn't cause any distraction and as allowed by the rules of the country you are in. Ensure that the spot is clean.

After the spot is ready, attach the suction cup to the dash cam and then position and attach the camera to your place of choice then lock the clip.

Check the line

Behind the airbag, run the wire. Do this very carefully since it is the most important part of the procedure

Tuck any excess wire

After attaching the power cable to the camera on the dashboard, any extra cable should be hidden behind the liner of the roof, this is done by forcing the excess cable slowly behind the headliner.

Tuck it away thereafter; you can hide the wire behind the rubber seal after putting the pillar panel back.

Power the dash cam

The power cable; the car charger needs a solution of 12 volts. Find the power solution and plug it into the socket with 12v capacity.

Complete the install

Tuck all the wires away and the excess wires left by putting them behind the factory panel. The wires are usually under the dash panel.

How to use a dash cam

Now you have successfully completed the installment process, let's proceed to know how to use a dash camera.

Setting the camera device up

  • After the installation, insert the charger end of the power cable into the power socket of the car, such that it records immediately when the engine of the car is turned on.
  • The REC button found on the middle right enables you to change any setting on the camera including the time you wish to start or stop recording through the menu which comes when you press the button and then you can navigate any setting you need.
  • Once the cash dam is set, it can work independently without being set anymore. The latest cameras delete old files automatically when it is full.

Saving important videos

  • Any important videos or footage can be saved by pressing the emergency button which is found on these devices. This will protect the current segment which was being recorded and thus it can't be lost.
The menu setting can change the length to be saved but it is usually 1 minute and it can only be removed by deleting by manual means.
  • You can save as many videos as possible as long as the size of your SD can accommodate. The larger the SD card the more the videos you can save.

All recordings in HD usually have a capacity of 1GB for 6 minutes videos which means that a 32 GB SD card can record for three hours continuously then it can start to overwrite the original video.
